Stretcher Transportation

Stretcher Transportation in Greater Chicago

When a rider needs to lie down for the trip, the ride has to be gentle from the first lift to the last. First Class Mobility provides non-emergency stretcher transportation across Cook, DuPage, and Lake counties, for hospital discharges, moves between facilities, and appointments that have to happen lying down.

When Families and Facilities Book a Stretcher Ride

Going Home From the Hospital.

After surgery or a long stay, when sitting up for the drive isn’t possible yet.

Moving Between Facilities.

Hospital to rehab, rehab to skilled nursing, and back.

Appointments and Imaging.

Wound care, scans, and specialist visits for riders who can’t sit for the trip.

Returning to a Senior Community.

Back to assisted living or memory care after a hospital visit.

Leaving the hospital this week? Let’s plan the ride home.

How a Stretcher Ride Works

  1. We Plan It With You.

Tell us where the rider is (a hospital room, a facility, a bedroom at home), where they’re going, and anything the driver should know, from oxygen to stairs at the pickup.

  2. We Arrive With Time to Spare.

The driver brings the stretcher to the bedside and moves the rider gently, with no rush.

  3. Secured for the Drive.

The stretcher locks into the van and the rider is belted in before we pull away, and the driver takes it slow from there.

  4. We Stay for the Handoff.

At the other end, the driver brings the rider inside to the nurse or the family who is expecting them.

For Hospitals, Rehab & Skilled Nursing

Discharge planners and case managers: tell us the discharge time, the destination, and what the patient needs, and the van arrives ready for exactly that.

Common Questions

Who can book a stretcher ride?

A family member, the rider, or the facility. Many stretcher rides are set up by a hospital or nursing facility, and we’re glad to work directly with the discharge team.

Is a stretcher ride the same as an ambulance?

No. Our stretcher rides are for planned, non-emergency trips where the rider is stable but can’t sit up. In an emergency, always call 911.

Can the rider bring oxygen?

Yes, their own supply. Mention it when you book and the driver will plan space for it.

Do you do transfers between facilities?

Yes, across Cook, DuPage, and Lake counties, and longer trips anywhere in Illinois.

How much notice do you need?

Call as soon as the date is set. If the date is today, call anyway, because same-day sometimes works.
